We spoke about the Illusory world out there and the real self in us. Why do we say that the world is unreal ?. Do these things such as stars galaxies planets , life forms do not exist at all?.
No it is not existence that we speak about as their unreality.
It is their transient nature that we must see as unreal. Existence is there, but it doesn't last.Stars die, life forms die all universe changes its form. Look at our mind itself , various thoughts and concepts have come and gone. One moment we are sad, at other we feel content. It seems so transient.
So we now begin to appreciate what we mean when we say illusory.
Investing in changing things and failing to realize the unchanging reality is what is called illusion.
Changing things are always unpredictable. Hence the misery.
However it is clear that underneath these changing things there is something that doesn't change. If there were no such changeless entity, who would have seen all the changes ?
In the story i told you the monk in the Himalayas asked the man
"You feel that you are miserable . Don't you?. Then you are really the knower of your misery. If you are the knower of the misery, then you are not misery itself. You stand apart from it .."
Just like that pure consciousness watches the changing world. If that too was changing it would not have understood the change as unreal. So in us there is an absolute reality which witnesses the relative world of names and forms which are transient.
The concept is not difficult to understand , in order to see something as relative, we need an absolute reference. This absolute reference frame is the pure consciousness in you.
When i say You , i don't mean a single consciousness, as we have seen there is only a field of consciousness, no individual ones. Individuality also is an illusion created out of the body consciousness or ego.
So the way of spiritual life is to unravel this pure consciousness or awareness and distinguish it from our local consciousness or mind.
Live with awareness of every experience and stand apart from it rather than be immersed in it . Watch your own mind and body as though it is someone else's. Slowly your identity changes. It is part of growing up or awakening as they say.
Then you tend to feel why run after these transient things when i am actually the cosmic I itself. At least you start seeing through the artificial misery, sorrow and madness.
As you face problems in life ask yourselves this question. Does it pertain to real me or only the worldly I ?.
A guru was telling about these issues in life and somebody asked this question
" When i really desire something, and finally have it, i do feel happy. Is this happiness not real?"
The guru replied
" When you are just desiring something you are a wanting person. When you have that thing, the wanting person is removed temporarily. So it is not the thing but the absence of the wanting person that triggered the happiness. This is the reason why sanyasins are so happy because in them there are no wants or desires. Abandoning should come naturally however. If it triggered due to frustration it is not detachment."
